J.D. Calhoun, the man behind the sweet and savory pastry masterpieces of 13 Coins, is a self-taught, 30-year restaurant veteran who has dedicated 23 of those years to the Boren and Seatac 13 Coins locations.

"I've worked every position in the kitchen," he says. "I love to cook and bake and I thrive on the feedback of people appreciating my work, and that keeps me going."

J.D., raised in Mississippi, was first influenced in baking by his mother. He has realized an innate ability to envision something, create it, and give it his own signature. His love of food drove him to a restaurant career that he pursued wholeheartedly. Staff and customers alike rave about J.D.'s from-scratch delights: Key Lime Pie, Red Velvet Cake (just like grandma), ethereal Coconut and Banana Cream Pies, and a classic Carrot Cake.

Look for his tiramisu, fried ice cream and crème brûlée lining the dessert menu. For custom baked bliss, J.D. also hand-crafts muffins, coffee cake and fresh-baked cookies upon request.
