Frank Salerno was raised in Chicagoland where his grandparents shared their love of rhythm and blues with him: Lou Rawls, Billy Eckstine, The Mills Brothers and The Ramsey Lewis Trio. Salerno was also influenced by doo-wop and jazz, and studied arranging with tenor saxophonist Don Menza.
